My forthcoming book is based on the five years I lived in New Delhi as South Asia correspondent for National Public Radio and PRI's Marketplace Radio. Through the personal narratives of six women in India, Sideways on a Scooter shows how one of the world's fastest-changing economies is also home to one of the world's slowest-changing cultures.
While stationed in India, I reported on stories like Afghanistan's first elections in a quarter century, the Asian tsunami, the Kashmiri insurgency in the mountains on the India-Pakistan border, and the Tamil Tiger separatist movement in Sri Lanka. My stories were heard on National Public Radio programs and BBC programs, and published in the Boston Globe, Slate Magazine, The Independent of London, and the Nation Magazine, among others.
I moved to Washington, DC to work as an editor at National Public Radio. I make regular reporting trips to South Asia.
